I had the pleasure of capturing memorable moments with my client Li-Asia, her six-month-old son Alexander and her niece Jenna at the prestigious Dwarsberg Trout Hideaway near Rawsonville, South-Africa. The remit was nature, preferably a forest, a river and we got a whole lot more with good weather, light and mountains too. This was their first family shoot and a special one too.
Dwarsberg Trout Hideaway is exactly that. A piece of tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle, yet so close to town. The towering mountains make one feel that they are miles away from civilisation.
I had to do some preplanning for this photoshoot, as the mountains would affect the length shadows, and I wanted to make use of the best light available. In this instance, we decided on the morning light which worked so well for our setting. Little Alexander was such a gem to work with, no crying, no tantrums and very keen to explore his surroundings.
Images were taken near the river, under shady trees and on his favourite blanket. I also took the opportunity to create a short video of the surroundings as this gives a sense of place and being. Photos are one thing, and video another dimension to which the senses respond.
One of my favourites from the shoot.
